Another fabulous Operation Christmas Child appeal
Thank you all so very much for your support of OCC. Thank you for your donations of gift filled shoeboxes, fillers, knitted hats, scarves, glove puppets etc and thank you to those of you who gave your valuable time helping us to process all our shoeboxes.
Thank you especially to Gus and Kevin, managers from the Wrekin Housing Trust/Reviive who were happy for us to share their premises in Trench – at one point we were wondering if we were going to find a processing centre this year.
This morning the container lorry arrived at 10.00am and loading of the boxes began. Pete, Martin, Alan, Paul and Martin, Rod from the Shrewsbury team, a couple of guys from the Army Reserve Centre and 4 Reviive guys worked really, really hard, loading on all our shoeboxes, working up a sweat on what was a pretty chilly morning. Les and Freeman were very busy co-ordinating all the stacked pallets with the pump truck and dealing with them when they were emptied! Brill team work guys
The lorry was loaded in just under 2 hours with all those shoeboxes – 7,280 of them to be precise – all from the generous people of Shropshire!! 4,587 were collected from Telford and a further 2,693 from Shrewsbury. An additional 821 were brought over in 80 cartons last night from Worcester to ensure we had a full load – cos they’re going quite a way. The doors on the lorry were closed and sealed, we waved the lorry off and all those shoeboxes are now heading to needy boys and girls in Central Asia.
We’d like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year and as you celebrate Christmas with your family and friends, please remember all those boys and girls who through your generosity will have a gift of their very own to open this year.
Elaine, Pete and the Telford Team
