Aims

Our aims are that all children can

As our children move through Key Stage 2 they will be taught French. The curriculum covers basics like numbers and develops language around topics they would be able to put into practice, e.g. Greetings names, courtesy words moving into emotions and preferences. Grammar is a large focus of the teaching and children will develop their understanding of grammar alongside what we teach in literacy.

In lessons the children are taught to listen attentively to spoken language and show understanding by joining in and responding. Through rhymes and songs, the children will explore the sounds and patterns of language and will begin to make links. The children are encouraged to engage in conversations with their peers putting into practice what they have learnt. As they practice speaking in French they will develop the appropriate expression and intonation needed.
